Memo for the population of Kegaska

On March 30, 2022, representatives of the Municipality met with the newly elected members of your local committee via Teams.

Since there isn’t a lot of new information to share on the many subjects we discussed during the public meeting of last Fall , the municipality proposes to send you a resume of our recent work session. As soon as more information is available, a public meeting will be held.

An overview of certain subjects discussed during our work session :

  1. The need to hire a municipal employee for Kegaska. A job posting to this effect will be posted shortly.

  1. We would like to sensitize the population to the fact that if we are not using the dump site properly, the municipality may receive a fine from the Minister of Environment. We ask you to please collaborate with the Municipality and to dispose of your personal waste at the dump in a proper and acceptable way. As per government regulations, the Municipality must adopt and put a management protocol in place for the dump in Kegaska. More information will be shared, soon, to this regard.

  1. The Land Management plan of the MRC had to be modified but it seems that this modification should soon be finalized. This will mean that as soon as the approval is received, there will be access to new lots, through the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources (MERN) as per the land development plan for Kegaska. As soon as there is new information on this very important file, you will be notified.

  1. We are currently waiting for the land survey done by Englobe for the Multi-purpose building. There will also be a meeting with the fishermen’s committee to further explore the needs of the community and to look at the possibility of a partnership.

  1. Multiple tourism projects are on the go. Two from the previous local committee that should be completed this spring and a laundry room addition to the toilet project in collaboration with the fishermen’s association. These facilities will be placed by the parking lot. A campground and walking trail project is also projected in the near future.

  1. Transport Québec has confirmed in writing that the airport in Kegaska is now officially closed. The Municipality will be requesting to meet with Transport Québec and the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources to enquire on their intentions towards the infrastructure (gravel, fence, etc..) and as well the plans for the land lot of the airport.  As soon as more information is received, it will be shared with the community.

  1. An update was given on the paving of the road 138 from Pointe-Parent to Kegaska and according to Transport Quebec, this should be completed in 2023. The Municipality has asked Transport Québec if it will be possible to negotiate having the municipal roads in Kegaska to be paved at the same time. Transport Québec has confirmed that this possibility could be considered once they have advanced to a certain point in the project preparations. Efforts will continue to this possibility.

  1. Kegaska will have its own recycling program that we want to start this spring. Your local committee will receive information soon and will share it with you.

  1. The final plans for the building and the waterline are being prepared as we speak by the consultants. A pilot study is being done simultaneously to find out which treatment system will be the best one according to the kind of water you have in Kegaska. As soon as possible, a meeting will be held to give the community an update on the waterline project.

More details will follow to this regard, and we thank you for your understanding and collaboration.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions or comments.

We are looking forward to meeting with you.
